How often should I water my lawn?

Watering should be done deep and infrequent if possible.  Depending on your soil type, you want to get up to 1 inch of water week watering every 3-4 days.  During summer months June-August interval may go to every 2-3 days.  Extreme drought and heat conditions may get to 1-2 day intervals.  Make sure you audit your sprinkler system at start-up in spring, right before summer, and before overseeding.  Check that all sprinkler heads are getting the proper coverage and are moving without obstruction. Watering is a delicate balancing act- too much or too little can cause issues. We will recommend the best watering schedule for your lawn as the season progresses.

When is the best time of the year to aerate?

Fall is the best time to core aerate, usually after labor day.  With the warm days and cooler nights we usually do this in conjunction with overseeding for the best chance of seed germination and it makes it easier for the lawn to recover.  Early spring is also a great time, even though it’s not that common.  For heavily compacted and thatchy lawns we recommend doing both spring and fall aerations.
